Train Tracks

It's like I'm running at
a million miles per hour.
A brain upon a track
An engine fully powered, pulling me along the iron.
Inertia, the force snaps ropes
Or any means to slow me down.
Wrapping a life around
breakneck pace like this;
Things hold a time then float away, I wonder how it would be
To pause for the sound of a heartbeat.
To reach the end of the track
will push all out the way.
With only the destination in mind
The ticking clock and engine lights keep company.
A warning for this ride:
Once it's gone it's out of sight and out of mind
Promised love left floating in the air rush left behind.
My face stays front
My eyes
bound this way
I couldn't see the passing flowers
even if I wanted to.
Now and then I shed a tear, for what is missed
The love I felt left floating like an empty promise
As the air stills after the rush.
My eyes are blind to all except
the metal path before me but
A face is in the distance,
a warm body
waving at me
smiling -
can my destination all but hinge
on
just two train tracks?
